Feel Good with ‘The Cloudspotter’s Guide’

Have you ever heard of Gavin Pretor-Pinney?  This British designer and author wrote the bestselling book ‘The Cloudspotter’s Guide’ and started the website; www.cloudappreciationsociety.org
Mama-Buddha learned an important lesson from him.
This optimistic man tells us all about the beauty of clouds. And how we treat clouds as ‘something that gets in the way of our sun’. He talks about ‘blue sky thinking’.
There is nothing wrong with just lie in the grass and look at clouds. Maybe you remember you did so when you were a kid, and you saw all the special shaped clouds. Looking at clouds, see the shapes and try to make something out of it, it is almost like meditation. Focus on being relaxed, lie down in nature, breathing fresh air and be still.

Please take some time to listen to Gavin, and then allow yourself to lie down and appreciate our beautiful nature.

Why aren’t we kids anymore?

Mama Buddha is confused; why aren’t we kids anymore?

feeling-good-relax-more

Feeling Good Relax More

Mama Buddha is confused, already for a long time. Because when I look at kids, how they act and react, I keep asking myself; ‘Where did we grown-ups went wrong?’

Let me try to explain.
Kids are pure, honest, living in the moment. At least when they are like 2 or 3 years old. Up till then we allow them to be their own little individuals. We allow them to be kids. We allow them to get angry, moody, tired, sleepy, hungry, happy and joyful at the times they want to be.
Little babies do not understand our concept of time. Every young parent knows what I am talking about. When your child is hungry, and cries, you feed them. When they are asleep, you let them.

When they get cranky (because they are hungry or tired) again, you feed them or put them to bed.
But then we try to mold the child into our grown-up, socially accepted concept of time and order.
Sleep at 07.00 pm until 07.00 am, eat 3 meals a day, go to school during the day, prepare the child to go to work every day, earn money, be responsible.
And then, when we grow up and do all these things, we get stressed out, depressed, burned out.
Why?…we ask ourselves.
Mama Buddha thinks it is because when growing up, we forget to listen to our body. We do not allow ourselves to listen to our body anymore. If you get cranky because you are tired…get over it!
Hungry at 2 pm, get over it, wait until dinnertime. Sleepy at 5.00 pm, again…get over it, you still have to finish work, make dinner, watch TV, go to do your sports, socialize with your friends, and then, maybe then you allow yourself to go to bed.
Why are we so hard on ourselves? Why don’t we treat ourselves as the kids we once were? Look at small children. When they are moody, 9 times out of 10 it is very easy to solve. With some sleep, attention, nutrition. Let us be more kind to ourselves, listen more to our bodies, give the body the rest it deserves. I am sure we all feel so much healthier and happier.

Do you think you know how much sugar you eat a year?

No fats…but lots of sugar!

No fats…but lots of sugar!

Most of us think we do, we use one teaspoon of sugar in our coffee, or tea. We drink 4 cups a day…voila, four teaspoons of sugar a day.
Think again!
In America in 2012 the average intake of sugar was 100 lbs a head a year. This is 30 teaspoons of sugar a day, EVERYONE, EVERY DAY!
Europe is not doing any better. There are some countries with low sugar consumptions, but in Europe the average is 80 lbs a head a year.
The exact numbers on sugar intake are not easy to be found. Because some stats are only talking about (raw)sugar, not including the artificial sweeteners, corn syrup and fruit sugars. If we add these products, the amount of sweeteners eaten in America in a year will rise above 140 lbs a person!

Most of these sugars are so called ‘hidden sugars’. The are in our food, sometimes in food we do not expect it in.

Half of your (empty)calories for the day!

Half of your (empty)calories for the day!

Almost half of the American sugar-intake is from soda’s and fruit drinks. Also grain-based desserts, pizza, chicken dishes and yeast breads are notorious for their hidden sugars.
On the food labels you can also read fructose. We could think…fructose is a fruit sugar, so it is a healthy sugar. Sorry, NO.
Actually, fructose can be made out of corn.  High Fructose Corn Syrup (HGCS) is one of the most dangerous and harmful sugars for your body. And because of its low costs, the industry is using it a lot!

Maybe we should use sugar only to make art…?

Is sugar all bad?
There are a lot of diseases that are connected to sugar intake. The most common known diseases related to sugar intake are: diabetes, obesities, high blood pressure and heart diseases.  But also migraine, bad skin, fatigue, bowel problems. However, there are many studies contradicting each other on this subject. And because Mama Buddha is not an expert, I let you find out for yourself. Check the internet, and study on it.
But if we just use our common sense, we should understand that too much sugar is not good for us. Over 40 kilos of sugar a head a year…seriously?

How does Coconut oil works for our body

Virgin Coconut Oil

Virgin Coconut Oil

Last week we talked about how to use coconut oil.
Today Mama-Buddha is explaining you how it works. A little more intensive reading for you.

Let us enter some information of how coconut oil works for our body.

The body transforms lauric acid into monolaurin which is declared to assist in taking care of germs and viruses causing conditions such as herpes, influenza, and so on. It assists in battling damaging germs. As an outcome of these different wellness advantages of coconut oil, though its precise system of activity was unidentified, it has actually been thoroughly utilized in Ayurveda, the conventional Indian medical system.

Fatty acid composition of coconut oil

Fatty acid composition of coconut oil

The Coconut Research Center has compiled various benefits in both traditional and modern medicine.

Before we proceed to discuss the advantages of coconut oil in extension, we need to understand the components of virgin coconut oil.

Composition of Coconut Oil

Coconut oil includes even more than ninety percent of saturated fats (Do not panic! First checked out to the last word. Your viewpoint could alter), with traces of couple of unsaturated fatty acids, such as monounsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Virgin coconut oil is no various from this. Let us have a bit comprehensive research of this.
Saturated fatty acids: Many of them are medium chain triglycerides, which are expected to take in well. Lauric acid is the chief factor, with even more than forty percent of the share, followed by capric acid, caprylic acid, myristic acid and palmitic.

Polyunsaturated fatty acids: Linoleic acid.
Monounsaturated fatty acids: Oleic acid.
Poly-phenols: Coconut consists of gallic acid, which is phenolic acid. These poly-phenols are expected to be accountable for the scent and the taste of coconut oil and Virgin Coconut Oil is rich in these poly-phenols.
Specific by-products of fatty acid like betaines, ethanolamide, ethoxylates, fatty esters, fatty polysorbates, monoglycerides and polyol esters.
Fatty chlorides, fatty alcohol sulphate and fatty alcohol ether sulphate, every one of which are by-products of fatty alcohols.
Vitamin and vitamin-e K and minerals such as Iron.
